Swindon to Kemble engineering work overrun

Monday 02nd September 2013
First Great Western has apologised to customers after Network Rail's improvement work along the Swindon and Kemble line overran this morning.

Due to this overrun, buses continue to replace trains.

An hourly train shuttle service will operate between Gloucester and Kemble and high speed services from Worcester will be diverted via Bristol.

Mark Hopwood, FGW Managing Director said:

“After three weeks of work to the line, this failure to complete the work and give us back access to the track on time is disappointing and has let our customers down.”

"It is particularly frustrating as we had already granted additional time to finish the scheduled work.

"As a result we've not been able to run the services we planned, and we're very sorry to customers who have been affected.

"We will be working with Network Rail to look at what went wrong, and seeking clear and credible assurances that the next stage of work scheduled for next year will not be impacted in the same way.

"Today, our focus has been on making sure our contingency plans are working well and making sure our customers can still get to where they need to go.
