What to expect

Over 160 wooden chalets decorate the city streets where you’ll find plenty of gift ideas, whether you’re buying for loved ones or just treating yourself.

From clothes and accessories to crafts toys, artwork and jewellery, you won’t be short of choice. Don’t forget to stock up on artisan festive foods such as cheeses, meats and puddings as you sip on your mulled wine.

Before you head home, visit the world-famous Royal Crescent and Roman Baths, or make an evening of it and try one of the many great local restaurants, bars and pubs.

Busy times

Weekends are usually busiest for Bath Christmas Market, and sporting events can add to this. Sunday 2 December will be particularly busy with the home game, Bath Rugby v Sale Sharks at 15:00. If you want a quieter shopping experience, mid-week trips are ideal.

A queuing system will be in place at Bath Spa station for return journeys, so please allow extra time when travelling. We’ll be providing extra seats on board our trains where we can, particularly at peak times.

Travelling from Bristol?

We’ll be providing extra services where possible. Check your journey plans before you travel at

Some of our trains have more carriages than others, and these usually leave Bristol Temple Meads on the hour and half past the hour.

On the weekends of 24 and 25 November, and 1 and 2 December, buses will replace trains between Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads, including the Severn Beach line.

If you’re travelling from these stations, or Keynsham or Oldfield Park, you may find local bus options more convenient instead. More details can be found here.

On all other dates a normal train service will be running.

Travelling from South Wales, Bristol Parkway, Gloucester, Yate or Cam & Dursley?

Due to engineering work north of Bristol on the weekends of 24 and 25 November, and 1 and 2 December, your best route to the market will be to change trains at Swindon. Tickets for Bath Spa are valid for travel via Swindon, but you’ll need to allow some extra time to make your journey.

On all other dates a normal train service will be running, so there will be direct trains each hour.

Travelling from Cheltenham Spa, Birmingham or the Midlands?

On the weekends of 24 and 25 November, and 1 and 2 December, CrossCountry services from Birmingham and Cheltenham will call additionally at Bath Spa, meaning you won’t need to change trains.

On all other dates a normal train service will be running, so from Birmingham and the Midlands you’ll need to change trains at Bristol Temple Meads.

Customers from Cheltenham Spa can change at either Swindon or Bristol Temple Meads in order to reach Bath Spa.
