Guess the West – Terms and Conditions

These terms and conditions are subject to any other terms and conditions provided on this website or otherwise by the Company at the time of entering the competition. By entering this competition, each entrant confirms that he/she has read and understood these terms and conditions.

  1. The Competition

    1. The competition promoter is First Greater Western Limited, Milford House, 1 Milford Street, Swindon SN1 1HL. Registered in England and Wales, company number: 05113733. First Greater Western Limited is a part of the FirstGroup group of companies.

    2. The competition is open from 12:00am 10th October 2016 – 11:59pm 6th November 2016. Any entries received outside of this period (for whatever reason) will be invalid.

    3. The competition consists of a weekly prize draw which will see one winner selected by GWR impartially from the valid entries received during the preceding week. One lucky winner will be chosen and drawn each week for the duration of the competition.

    4. The competition may be modified or withdrawn at any time.

  2. Competition entry

    Entry is free of charge and no payments are required in order to participate.

    1. To enter, entrants must share their Guess The West quiz score on Twitter with a link to the Guess the West quiz page (www.gwr.com/destinations-and-events/guessthewest) and use the #GuessTheWest hashtag.

    2. The competition is only open to those who are 18 years or over and who are residents of the UK. Proof of identity and age may be required.

    3. The Company’s employees and their immediate families, the Company’s agents and anyone professionally connected with the prize draw are not eligible to take part.

    4. The Company reserves the right to check the validity of any entry. Entries failing to comply with these rules may not be accepted.

    5. Proof of Social media submission will not be accepted as proof of entry and no responsibility is accepted for entries that are lost, damaged or delayed for whatever reason, including without limitation due to computer, network and/or user error.

    6. Entrants may submit as many entries as they wish but no entrant may win more than one weekly prize.

  3. Winner selection

    Subject to the terms set out below, a judge nominated by the Company (at its sole discretion) will select one winner out of all valid entries for each of the weekly prize draws.

    1. The judge’s decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.

    2. The Company will use its discretion to select a replacement winner in the event this is necessary.

  4. The Prize

    Each week one lucky winner will be awarded two first class, return train tickets to be used anywhere across the Great Western Railway network. One winner will be allocated each week for a period of four weeks.

    1. Tickets are valid on Great Western Railway services only.

    2. The tickets will remain valid for 12 months from the date of issue. It is the prize winner’s responsibility to ensure that the tickets are used within this timeframe.

    3. The prize is subject to availability and the Company’s terms and conditions.

    4. The prizes are as stated and, subject to paragraph 6 below, no cash or other alternatives will be offered.

    5. If, due to circumstances beyond the Company’s control, the Company is unable to provide the stated prize, it reserves the right to award a substitute prize of equal or greater value. Any extra costs incurred, including but not limited to taxes, travel to/from rail stations, overnight accommodation, insurance etc. are not included within the prize and are the sole responsibility of the prize winner.

    7. Great Western Railway reserves the right to check the validity of any entry. Entries failing to comply with these rules will not be accepted. All entries must be received by 11:59pm 6th November 2016. Entrants may submit as many entries as they wish but no entrant may win more than one weekly prize. The winners will be notified within 7 days on each Monday the competition runs. The winners will be notified from GWR’s Facebook or Twitter account and will be directed to contact [email protected] to claim their prize and their names may be published on this website.

    8. Reasonable efforts will be made to contact the winner(s). If the winner(s) cannot be contacted, or are unable to comply with these terms and conditions, the Company reserves the right to offer the prize to any other eligible entrant.

  5. Exclusion of liability

    The Company shall not be responsible for, and shall not cover nor insure any entrants and winner, and third parties from and against any and all actions, claims, proceedings, losses, liabilities, damages, penalties, fines, judgments, costs, charges and expenses of whatever kind and nature relating to the vouchers and prizes in any way.

  6. General

    This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by or associated with Facebook or Twitter.

    1. The Company is compliant with the Data Protection Act and will not pass on your details to any third party without your prior consent. Further details can be found in the Company’s Privacy Policy.

    2. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales, whose courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
