Check you’ve got your face covering, unless exempt, and hand sanitiser to bring with you.
Buy your ticket
Buy your tickets online or on the GWR app before you travel. Or, go paperless with a mobile e-ticket or our touch smartcard.
This will reduce contact with other people and help with social distancing at stations. If you travel between Reading and London Paddington, we’d prefer you to use Contactless pay as you go (though we will still accept cash at all our ticket offices and ticket machines).
Make a reservation
some of our services don’t have reservations at all; you can buy a ticket and sit in any seat
on most of our trains that have reservations, you will be provided with a specific seat in a specific carriage; sometimes, we’ll allocate you a space on the train rather than a specific seat; this means you are booked to travel on that train and can sit in any vacant seat for your class of travel
we will allocate you a seat/space if one is available; however, if they are all already reserved, you won’t be able to buy a ticket online for that service
we leave some space for those with walk-up tickets, or who may have been disrupted; this helps with social distancing on board by allowing customers to make best use of all seats
Our toilets and baby changing facilities are still open in most stations, though we may limit the number of people who can use them.
Some of our waiting rooms may be closed, including our First Class lounges at London Paddington and Cardiff Central.
Using our ticket gates
Our ticket gates are still in use, as they help us understand the number of people who use our trains. You might see some blocked out or our staff behind a screen to help with social distancing.
Use the full length of our platforms. At many of our stations, the information screens and the platform zone markings show where the carriages will stop and how long the train is. Let customers off the train first to help with social distancing.
Talking to our staff
We’re still here to help. But, please remember to keep a safe distance if you do need to talk to us.
At some stations, car parking spaces may be reduced to help with social distancing.
