Upgrading the railway in the Bristol and Bath area

Upgrade work is planned by Network Rail to further improve the reliability and performance of train services across the network.

Saturday 6 April

Buses and coaches will replace trains between Bath Spa and Westbury or Frome as well as between Westbury and Chippenham (via Melksham).

Services from Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour will terminate at Bath Spa and then restart from Westbury.

Sunday 7 April and weekends of 13/14 April and 11/12 May

Trains between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads will be diverted via an alternate route and won’t call at Chippenham or Bath Spa.

Buses and coaches will replace trains between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads, Bath Spa and Swindon, Bath Spa and Westbury or Frome as well as between Chippenham and Westbury (via Melksham).

Saturday 11 May

Early morning train services across the central area of our network will be affected by an important signalling upgrade to improve the performance of our trains.

Replacement buses/coaches will operate on some routes until approximately 07:20 with the majority of services expected to return to normal by 12:00.

Bristol Parkway to Cardiff Central

Work will also be taking place to electrify the line through to Cardiff Central on various weekends and public holidays until October.

Yatton

There will be a temporary closure of around 40 spaces in the south side car park at Yatton station until Wednesday 24 April.

This is to enable Network Rail to store equipment needed for track renewal work. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Looking ahead

Planned engineering work will also affect services on Sundays 23 June and 7 July between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads, Bath Spa and Swindon as well as between Chippenham and Westbury.
