Christmas 2017

Preparation for new trains from 2 January

Crossrail work in the London area

This Christmas Network Rail will be working to deliver two key projects which mean we need to make changes to our train services.

We’re launching a new timetable on 2 January when we’ll be running our new Electrostar trains between London and Didcot Parkway. We’ll also have more InterCity Express trains in service from this date too.

In order to prepare for this, work needs to be carried out on the overhead wires and other infrastructure.

The Crossrail program will also move forward with a number of stations having platforms extended in readiness for longer trains. You can find out more about this exciting project at www.crossrail.co.uk

Our travel advice

If you’re planning on getting away for Christmas, we recommend you doing so by Saturday 23 December at the latest.

There will be some minor alterations on Saturday because that’s when the work starts, but on Christmas Eve we’ll start to thin our trains out considerably.

Whichever day you plan to travel, check your times before travelling, be aware that your journey may involve a change of trains or a replacement bus service, and reserve your seat whenever it’s possible to do so.
