Community and charity support

GWR are committed to working with the communities we serve to deliver a sustainable and socially responsible future.

We want to make a difference in the areas our trains run through. We do this by supporting two specific charities who have a link to our business and share our vision and values: Samaritans and Railway Children

Delay Repay provides compensation for customers who have been delayed by 15 minutes or more. This compensation would usually be refunded back to the customer following an application via the GWR website. However, now customers can choose instead to divert the funds directly to Samaritans and Railway Children. During the financial year 2022-23 a total of 2,613 claims were donated to charity, totalling £32,869.

Please note, as GWR is still receiving a taxpayer subsidy we are not able to sponsor any events, nor can we offer any raffle or auction prize donations.

To apply to hold a charity collection at one of our stations, please check the station is managed by GWR first. If the station is managed by GWR, please email us at GWR.Charities@gwr.com for an application form.

We require a minimum of 30 days’ notice.

The charity you are raising funds for must be registered with the Charity Commission for a minimum of 2 years and have submitted 2 years of accounts.

The charity must be a member of the fundraising regulator.

You will also need a supporting letter from the charity you are representing and a copy of their public liability insurance.
