2026
September
Track renewal work will impact train services via Slough.
Trains cannot operate between Slough and Windsor & Eton Central.
Replacement road transport is planned between Slough and Windsor & Eton Riverside station, instead of Windsor & Eton Central.
Alternatively, customers can use their tickets to travel between Reading and Windsor & Eton Riverside on South Western Railway trains instead by changing services at Staines on Saturday 5 or 12 September, plus Sunday 20 September.
In addition, trains between London Paddington and Reading will run to an amended timetable as only two out of four tracks will be available.
Important to note
Train services between London Paddington and Reading will also be amended on Sunday 27 September, but services for Windsor & Eton Central will not be impacted.
Track renewal work will impact all train services via Chippenham.
Replacement road transport is planned between:
- Chippenham and Bath Spa
- Swindon, Chippenham, Melksham, Trowbridge and Westbury
Saturday 12 September
Some trains between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads, plus services between Oxford and Bristol Temple Meads, will use an alternative route.
These trains will not stop at either Chippenham or Bath Spa.
Other train services between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads will also be diverted using another alternative route instead.
These trains will not stop at Didcot Parkway, Swindon or Chippenham, but these will stop at Bath Spa.
Sunday 13 September
All services between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads will use an alternative route – not stopping at Chippenham with these services also extending to/from Bath Spa.
Signalling upgrade work will impact all train services for Portsmouth Harbour.
Replacement road transport is planned between Portsmouth Harbour and Southampton Central.
GWR trains will still operate between Southampton Central and Cardiff Central.
This rail improvement work also affects SWR and Southern train services.
Track renewal and maintenance work will impact train services between Redhill and Guildford.
Replacement road transport is planned between Gatwick Airport and Guildford.
GWR trains will still operate between Guildford and Reading.
This rail improvement work also affects Southern train services.
Track replacement work will impact train services between Cardiff Central and Bridgend.
GWR trains will continue to operate between London Paddington and Swansea or Carmarthen by using an alternative route – extending journey times by around 30 minutes.
This rail improvement work also affects Transport for Wales train services.
Essential track maintenance work will impact train services south of Bristol Temple Meads.
Replacement road transport is planned for most stations between Bristol Temple Meads and Weston-super-Mare.
Some rail replacement services will run non-stop, some will pick-up or drop-off at Nailsea & Backwell, Yatton, Worle and Weston Milton.
Please note these replacement services will not stop at Bedminster or Parson Street – customers should use local bus services instead for those stations.
As an alternative, valid rail tickets can also be used on the following bus services:

Track and structure renewal work will impact trains between Reading and Basingstoke, plus train services via Newbury until 17:30.
Replacement road transport is planned between:
- Reading and Basingstoke (all day)
- Reading and Newbury (until 17:30)
- Swindon and Pewsey (until 17:30)
Trains between London Paddington and Plymouth/Penzance will use an alternative route via Swindon until around 17:30 – extending journey times by at least 15 minutes.
Some of these services will be rerouted via Westbury, but others will be further diverted via Bristol Temple Meads – extending journey times by an additional 30 minutes.
During this time, some train services will still be operating operate between Newbury and Bedwyn but not between Bedwyn, Pewsey and Westbury.
This rail improvement work also affects CrossCountry train services via Basingstoke.
October
Signalling upgrade work will impact all train services for Portsmouth Harbour.
Replacement road transport is planned between Portsmouth Harbour and Fareham.
GWR trains will still operate between Fareham and Cardiff Central.
This rail improvement work also affects both SWR and Southern train services for Portsmouth Harbour.
Track renewal work will impact all train services via Cheltenham Spa.
Replacement road transport is planned between:
- Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa
- Gloucester and Worcester Foregate Street
GWR will still operate trains between Gloucester and London Paddington or Swindon, plus between Gloucester and Bristol Temple Meads, Westbury or Weymouth.
This upgrade work also affects Transport for Wales and CrossCountry train services for Cheltenham Spa.
TfW can still run train services between Gloucester and Cardiff Central.
CrossCountry can still run train services between Gloucester and Plymouth or Penzance with replacement road transport for Worcestershire Parkway or Birmingham New Street.
CrossCountry trains will not serve Worcestershire Parkway on the weekend of 3/4 October.
West Midlands Railway can still run trains between Birmingham New Street and Great Malvern or Hereford via Worcester Foregate Street.
Important to note
Rail improvement work will also affect trains via Worcester Shrub Hill on Sunday 4 October.
Further works will impact trains between Gloucester and Bristol Parkway or Swindon on the weekend of Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November.
Track maintenance work will impact all train services via Worcester Shrub Hill.
Replacement road transport is planned between Worcestershire Parkway and Great Malvern via Worcester Shrub Hill.
Train services will still operate between London Paddington and Worcestershire Parkway.
CrossCountry trains will not serve Worcestershire Parkway on the weekend of 3/4 October.
West Midlands Railway can still run trains between Birmingham New Street and Great Malvern or Hereford via Worcester Foregate Street.
Important to note
Rail improvement work will impact trains between Hereford and Worcester from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October.
Track maintenance work will impact train services between Swansea and Carmarthen.
Replacement road transport is planned between those stations affected.
Train services will still operate between London Paddington and Swansea.
This rail improvement work also impacts Transport for Wales train services via Llanelli.
Track renewal work will impact all train services via Pewsey.
Replacement road transport is planned between Swindon and Pewsey.
Trains between London Paddington and Plymouth or Penzance will use an alternative route diverted via Swindon – extending journey times by at least 15 minutes.
Most of these services will be further diverted via Bristol Temple Meads – extending journey times by an additional 30 minutes – but some will be rerouted via Melksham instead.
There will be no direct trains between London Paddington and Paignton or Frome.
Train services will continue to operate between Reading and Newbury or Bedwyn, but no replacement services are planned between Bedwyn, Pewsey and Westbury.
Important to note
Trains between Swindon and Westbury will run to an amended timetable on Saturday and Sunday with a very limited train service operating on weekdays.
The only local stopping trains via Melksham planned to run from Monday to Friday will be the 07:52 service from Westbury to Swindon, or the 17:36 from Swindon to Westbury.
Replacement transport is planned between Westbury and Chippenham at all other times – other train services will still be operating between Chippenham and Swindon.
Track and signalling upgrade work will impact train services via Salisbury.
Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October
Replacement road transport is planned between Warminster and Southampton Central.
GWR trains will still operate between Cardiff Central and Warminster, plus between Romsey and Portsmouth Harbour (Saturday), or Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour (Sunday).
Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October
Replacement road transport is planned between:
- Salisbury and Southampton Central (Saturday)
- Warminster and Southampton Central (Sunday)
GWR trains will still operate between Cardiff Central and Salisbury (Saturday) or Warminster (Sunday), plus between Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour (both).
This rail improvement work will also affect some SWR train services via Salisbury.
Rail improvement work will impact train services for Gatwick Airport via Guildford.
Weekend of 10/11 October and Sunday 18 October
Replacement road transport is planned between:
- North Camp and Gatwick Airport (only stopping at Guildford)
- North Camp and Redhill (stopping at all stations except Ash or Wanborough)
GWR trains will still operate between Reading and Ash.
Sunday 25 October
Replacement road transport is planned between:
- Guildford and Gatwick Airport (non-stop)
- Guildford and Redhill (stopping at all stations)
GWR trains will still operate between Reading and Guildford.
Important to note
Other train services will still be running between Reigate and Redhill, plus between Redhill and Gatwick Airport on all dates.
Rail replacement services will pick-up or drop-off customers outside Dorking main station instead of Dorking Deepdene.
Track replacement work will impact train services between Cardiff Central and Bridgend.
Trains will continue to operate between London Paddington and Swansea or Carmarthen by using an alternative route – extending journey times by around 30 minutes.
This rail improvement work also affects Transport for Wales train services for Bridgend.
Track maintenance work will impact some trains between London Paddington and Reading.
Trains will run to an amended timetable as only two out of four tracks will be available.

Replacement road transport is also planned between Maidenhead and Marlow after 19:00 on Sunday 25 October.

Replacement road transport is planned between Southampton Central and Eastleigh.
GWR trains between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour will use an alternative route – diverting via Eastleigh between Romsey and Fareham.

Replacement road transport is planned between:
- Bath bus station and Bristol Temple Meads (non-stop)

Valid rail tickets can also be used to travel on First West of England buses between:
- Bath city centre and Bristol city centre
- Bath city centre and Oldfield Park
- Bristol city centre and Keynsham

Trains between London and Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads will use an alternative route – not stopping at either Chippenham or Bath Spa.
Separate trains will run between London Paddington and Bath Spa via Chippenham.
There will be no direct train services between Oxford and Bristol Temple Meads – customers should change trains at Didcot Parkway instead.
Trains will still run between Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central, Gloucester or Worcester Shrub Hill with some services stopping additionally at Ashley Down station.
Trains will also be running between Bath Spa and Westbury or Portsmouth Harbour.
Separate train services will run between Westbury and Weymouth.
Important to note
Rail replacement services cannot stop to pick-up or drop off customers directly outside Oldfield Park or Keynsham stations.

Replacement road transport is planned between Worcester Shrub Hill and Great Malvern or Hereford.
Trains will still run between London Paddington and Worcester Shrub Hill with some extending to Worcester Foregate Street.
GWR trains will also run between Bristol Temple Meads and Worcester Shrub Hill.
West Midlands Railway trains will operate between Birmingham New Street and Worcester Shrub Hill with some extending to Worcester Foregate Street.
Track maintenance will impact train services between London and South Wales.
Trains will still operate between London Paddington and Swansea or Carmarthen by using an alternative route – extending journey times by around 25 minutes.
However, the frequency of train services to/from South Wales will be reduced to hourly due to the longer journey times involved.
Additional services will be provided between London Paddington and Swindon by extending some trains between London Paddington and Didcot Parkway.
Replacement road transport is not planned as train services will still be operating between Swindon and Bristol Parkway.
Important to note
Separate rail improvement work will also impact some trains in the Gloucester area.
Track maintenance will impact train services south of Gloucester.
Replacement road transport is planned between:
- Gloucester and Stroud (Saturday)
- Gloucester and Swindon (Sunday)
- Gloucester and Bristol Parkway
Train services will be operating between Stroud, Kemble and Swindon on Saturday only – these services will not run on Sunday.
Trains will still operate between Gloucester and Worcester Foregate Street on both days.
CrossCountry trains will still operate between Cheltenham Spa and Bristol Parkway by using an alternative route via Gloucester and Newport.
CrossCountry and Transport for Wales train services also operate as usual between Cheltenham Spa and Cardiff Central via Gloucester.
Tunnel maintenance will impact train services between Exeter St Davids and Exeter Central.
Replacement road transport is planned between both stations instead.
Trains will be running between Exeter St Davids and Paignton, Okehampton or Barnstaple.
Trains will also be running between Exeter Central and Exmouth.
This rail improvement work also affects SWR train services for Exeter St Davids.
November
Track and structure maintenance will impact train services via Southampton Central.
Replacement road transport is planned between Southampton Central and Eastleigh – a limited train service will also operate between those stations on Sunday 22 November.
GWR trains between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour will use an alternative route – diverting via Eastleigh between Romsey and Fareham.
This rail improvement work also affects South Western Railway and Southern train services.
Rail improvement work will impact train services between London Paddington and Reading.
Trains will run to an amended timetable as only two out of four tracks will be available.

Valid rail tickets can be used to travel on First West of England bus services between Bristol Temple Meads and Bedminster or Parson Street stations.
GWR will still operate trains between Weston-super-Mare and Taunton or Exeter St Davids, plus between Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central.
CrossCountry trains can still run between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton by using an alternative route – extending journey times by up to an hour.
Track maintenance will impact all train services via Wokingham.
Replacement road transport is planned between Reading and Guildford.
GWR trains will still operate between Guildford and Gatwick Airport.
This rail improvement work will also affect South Western Railway services.
Rail improvement work will impact all train services for London Paddington.
GWR will operate special trains between London Euston and Bristol Temple Meads, plus between London Euston and Swansea or Carmarthen.
These hourly train services will not be able to pick-up or drop-off customers between London Euston and Swindon, including at Oxford or Didcot Parkway.
GWR trains will still operate between:
- Slough and Windsor & Eton Central

- Twyford and Henley-on-Thames

Those travelling between Reading and London can use GWR trains between Reading and Guildford – change at Guildford for train services to/from London Waterloo.
To support this, an enhanced train service will be provided by GWR with additional trains running non-stop between Reading and Guildford in around 30 minutes.
Trains cannot run between West Ealing and Greenford – valid rail tickets will be accepted for travel on alternative Transport for London services instead.
The Night Riviera sleeper service will still run from London Paddington on Friday evening but the service from Penzance will arrive into London Euston instead on Saturday morning.
The Night Riviera will be operating from London Euston on Sunday evening but the service from Penzance will arrive into London Paddington on Monday morning.
Heathrow Express and Elizabeth line services cannot operate to/from Heathrow Airport – customers should use alternative airport transfer services instead.

Elizabeth Line will operate a reduced service between Reading and Maidenhead only with no services via Paddington for Abbey Wood or Shenfield.
Replacement road transport is planned at Slough for:
- Burnham, Taplow and Maidenhead
- West Drayton, Hayes & Harlington, Southall, Hanwell, Boston Manor and Ealing Broadway
Change at Maidenhead for trains to Reading, change at Boston Manor for Piccadilly line services to Heathrow Airport, change at Ealing Broadway for District/Central line services to central London.
Valid rail tickets will also be accepted for travel on London Underground services between TfL’s Paddington, Euston, Marylebone, Waterloo or Ealing Broadway stations.
However, only Bakerloo line services will be stopping at Paddington during this weekend.

Chiltern Railways operates trains between London Marylebone and High Wycombe, Oxford or Banbury – change at Oxford or Banbury for onward connections.

South Western Railway services between London Waterloo and Windsor & Eton Riverside or Reading are expected to be very busy due to international rugby at Twickenham.
As a result, boarding controls and a queuing system will be in place for these services.
Customers looking to use SWR trains to/from London Waterloo via Twickenham should consider travelling at less busy times of the day or alternatively go via Guildford instead.
