Due to a fire at a station at Paignton the line is closed. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.
Impact:
Train services between Paignton and Newton Abbot have been cancelled or revised.

What has happened?

A fire seriously damaged Paignton Station on Tuesday 22nd July 2026. The fire is now extinguished.
The station is currently shut.
The fire has affected signalling and surrounding infrastructure.
We will not be running any trains to Paignton today.
What are we doing about it?

No trains will run to Paignton on Wednesday 22nd July 2026.
The usual Exmouth to Paignton service will terminate at / start back from Newton Abbot.
We are running a very limited shuttle train service between Newton Abbot and Torquay, calling at Torre.
All trains will use Platform 1 at Torre and Torquay. (Platform 2 at both Torre and Torquay stations will not be used).
Services between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot are also being affected, please check your journey.

Option 1: Your ticket can be used, at no extra cost, in both directions on the following local bus routes. Just show your rail ticket to the driver.
>> Stagecoach route 11: Dawlish Warren (Station), Dawlish (The Green), Teignmouth, Torquay (Riviera Centre)
>> Stagecoach route 12: Newton Abbot (Station), Torre (Station), Torquay (Grand Hotel), Paignton (Bus Station).
>> Stagecoach route 22: Torquay (Strand), Paignton (Bus Station).

Option 2: Rail replacement road transport is supporting the train service. We are providing a shuttle service between Newton Abbot and Paignton via Torquay and Torre. This will not run to a timetable and will not show on journey planners.
Please speak to station staff at Newton Abbot or Torquay for more information. Please note that at Paignton Station, the surrounding roads are also closed off for safety reasons, and so operator Greenslades will be using the bus stop at the back of Peacocks Clothes shop just off Hyde Road, Paignton.
