New overnight Gatwick Airport trains

The trial will run for 12 weeks from Saturday 6 June to Saturday 12 September on selected nights only. It will comprise of two services from Reading to Gatwick Airport and three return services every Saturday morning, plus one service from Reading and two from Gatwick every Monday morning.

Currently, our services run between 04:30 and 23:30, meaning passengers with early departures or late arrivals – over 20% of Gatwick's daily traffic – cannot reach the airport by rail from the west.

This trial will allow us to test demand for extending our operating hours to Gatwick Airport by gathering real-world data on how passengers use the services. We’ll be monitoring the performance closely and will review feedback to help us consider options to improve services in the future.

Your ticket remains valid up to 04:29 on the day after the date shown so you can continue your journey through to Gatwick Airport on these trains.

The Gatwick Flyaway ticket is a reduced rate return ticket available to small groups of up to four people travelling to Gatwick Airport, connecting via the Reading and Guildford line to Gatwick (excluding connections via London).

The Gatwick Flyaway ticket has no time restrictions, so you don’t need to worry about avoiding travelling at peak times.

The ticket is priced at a flat rate and covers groups of two, three or four adults. You can also add on up four accompanying children for just £1 each.

The Gatwick Flyaway ticket is available for journeys starting from most of our stations. For specific locations and routes, please check with your nearest GWR ticket office.

You can change the outbound travel date, if you do so before the original outbound date. Refunds are available for completely unused tickets, within 28 days of the expiry date and will be subject to an administration fee of £5 per booking. The Gatwick Flyaway is sold as a return ticket, for customers purchasing the ticket for use one way, no refund will be applicable for the unused portion of the ticket.

1. Customers must travel together for the entirety of their journey.
2. Child tickets can only be purchased for use with an accompanying adult Gatwick Flyaway ticket and cannot be used for solo travel.
3. Break of journey is not permitted for both the outward and return journey.
4. Journeys cannot include connections via London stations.
5. The outward journey can only be used on the date shown on the ticket. The return is valid for one calendar month from the outward date.
6. Proof of airline travel may be requested at time of purchase or by our on board team.
