What to expect in Exeter this Christmas
Christmas in Exeter is a wonderfully atmospheric time of year, with festive markets, late-night shopping, family entertainment and seasonal experiences across the city.
The festivities begin on Friday 13 November, when Exeter’s Christmas lights illuminate the city and the Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market and Princesshay Independent Market open.
More than 100 festive chalets will fill Cathedral Green, offering handpicked gifts, seasonal food and mulled wine beneath Exeter Cathedral’s spires. Visitors can also explore the Cathedral with entry by donation and enjoy a programme of festive events and services throughout the season.
In Princesshay, the Angel Wings, Santa’s Sleigh and JOY letters will provide picture-perfect moments, alongside the Charity Christmas Trees lining Bedford Street. Late-night shopping begins on Thursday 19 November, launched by SPARK! Drummers performing at 17:00, 18:00 and 19:00.
Winter Wonderland returns to Northernhay Gardens from 20 November to 3 January, featuring fairground rides, street food and a covered real-ice rink.
Exeter’s independent areas will host special events too. The Festive Fore Street Flea takes place on 22 November, followed by the new Festive First Thursday on Gandy Street on 3 December. Magdalen Road Christmas Fair returns on 5 December with local traders, artisan gifts, food and live music.
Families can also look forward to the Exeter Santa Run on 6 December, festive entertainment at Guildhall Shopping and Dining, and Christmas theatre across the city.

How to get there
Exeter Central is the closest station to the city centre. Mainline trains from London and Cornwall stop at Exeter St Davids, where visitors can change for Exeter Central or walk into the city centre in around 20 minutes.
