5 top family days out

A family day out doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg – FGW offer cheap train fares and great value on group travel. So whether you fancy a family safari or group photo with David Beckham (his waxwork counterpart that is) the First Great Western network has something for everyone!

1. Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds has stood the test of time – surrounded by a plethora of tourist  attractions in fickle London town, the museum has remained a favourite amongst visitors to the city for 130 years. And it’s easy to see why – they have an evergrowing number of figures on show, and each one requires months of work. Infact, each strand of hair on a waxwork is inserted individually. It takes approximately five weeks to complete just one head.
Get there: Marylebone Road, London; Nearest Tube, Baker Street

2. Longleat Safari and Adventure Park

Come face-to-face with lots of different animals including a giraffe (although you’d need to be pretty tall to actually come ‘face-to-face’ with one of those). Apparently, the pattern of a giraffe’s coat is as unique as a human fingerprint.

3. Crealy Adventure Park

Ride the theme park’s Maximus rollercoaster, named after the philosopher Claudius Maximus and pay homage to the Romans, who occupied Isca (as Exeter was known) some 2,000 years ago, during the third quarter of the 1st century AD.

4. Ripley’s Believe It or Not
This central London attraction boasts five floors of weird and wonderful objects, including a replica of Tower Bridge made from 264,345 ordinary matchsticks. This is a favourite destination for families visiting London, so why not invest in a family and friends rail card, saving you money when you travel on trains across the FGW network.
