Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is a great experience for all ages. Watch as more than 130 hot air balloons from across the world take to the sky, plus enjoy many other activities including trade stalls, fairground rides and a fireworks finale. The event is free of charge making it a cheap and great day out.

Things to see and do in Bristol

The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta takes place over four days giving you plenty of time to explore the local area. There’s plenty to see and do during your stay with top attractions including The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery or M Shed which offers a detailed history of the city.

The harbourside is packed with things to do and you can even hop on-board SS Great Britain which was the longest passenger ship in the world from 18:45-18:54. There are many great places to eat and drink too and with over 170 hotels in Bristol you are sure to find the perfect place to stay.

How to get there

Getting to Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is easy. Hop on a train into Bristol Temple Meads and then catch a shuttle bus running between Bristol Temple Meads and Ashton Court Estate.

Or if you fancy a stroll, the nearest station is Parson Street which is just a 30-minute walk to the fiesta.

  • buy your shuttle bus ticket in advance on the First Bus app, just visit the “Bristol area” and “special events” for the dedicated balloon shuttle tickets. Buying on the app is cheaper than buying on the day from the driver/ticket sellers
  • new for 2019 – services start at 04:30 and run every 20 minutes (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) so people can enjoy the morning assent
  • after 10:00 each day services run every 10 minutes between Bristol Temple Meads, the City Centre (stop C2 Colston Ave) and the fiesta site
  • ticket prices are £4 adult day, £12 group (up to 5 people) and two children 15 and under travel free with each fare paying adult
  • driver/ticket seller prices: £3 single, £5 adult day or £15 group and two children 15 and under travel free with each fare paying adult
  • if bus customers already have a First Bristol or West of England day, week, month or year ticket then they can upgrade to the balloon shuttle for £2 per person
