Weekend upgrades

Upgrade your seats on weekends and public holidays on most GWR routes, for as little as £10.

Benefit from the extra comfort that First Class offers, and enjoy our complimentary refreshments.

The price of your upgrade depends on the number of zones you travel through:

  • £10 for 1 zone
  • £15 for 2 zones
  • £20 for 3 zones
  • £25 for 4 or 5 zones

It’s really easy to upgrade. Just ask any member of staff when you jump on board, and they’ll be able to let you know whether any seats are available. And even if you need to change to another GWR train as part of your trip, you’ll pay one fare for the whole journey.

GWR First upgrades aren’t available on services run by other train companies.

Please be advised

We sometimes need to change suppliers or substitute products on our menus which may mean a change in allergen information.

If you don’t intend travelling for a while, then please check this guide again nearer to the date you travel and/or ask for information from our on-board crew who can assist with any questions you may have.

Your safety is paramount to us and if we cannot be sure of a product's allergenic suitability, our staff have been told not to sell it.

On-board service

We do our best to offer on-board food and drink as shown in our timetable. However, there may be times where, for operational reasons, this isn’t possible.

If we can’t serve you at your seat, just show your ticket at the buffet, or the Standard Class trolley, to get the complimentary snacks and drinks you’d like.

On-board Wi-Fi

We can't guarantee the availability of our on-board Wi-Fi, or that First Class customers will always receive an enhanced service.

Reclining seats, plug sockets, and USB ports aren't available in First Class on our fleet of 165/166 'Turbo' trains.

Accessibility - high-speed services

Our High Speed Train fleet (HSTs) have one First Class space for wheelchairs less than 610mm wide. There are no accessible toilets in First Class.

Our new Intercity Express Trains have two wheelchair spaces, and an accessible toilet, in First Class; and double this, when two trains are joined together.
