Upgrade work is planned around Worcester and Gloucester this year to further improve reliability and the performance of train services.

Most of the engineering work by Network Rail will take place at weekends. However, some work in July around Gloucester will affect weekday train services.

June

Sundays 9 and 16 June

Trains will be unable to call at Worcester Shrub Hill.

Services between London Paddington and Worcester Shrub Hill, Great Malvern or Hereford will terminate at Evesham, where replacement road transport will operate.

Services between Bristol Temple Meads and Worcester Shrub Hill will terminate at Cheltenham Spa, where replacement road transport will operate.

Replacement buses or coaches will operate between the following locations:

  • Evesham, Pershore, Worcester Shrub Hill, Worcester Foregate Street, Malvern Link, Great Malvern, Colwall, Ledbury and Hereford
  • Cheltenham Spa, Ashchurch for Tewkesbury, Worcester Shrub Hill and Worcester Foregate Street

July

Sunday 21 and Monday 22 July

Trains will be unable to call at Gloucester.

Services between London Paddington or Swindon and Cheltenham Spa as well as between Westbury or Bristol Temple Meads and Worcester or Great Malvern will not call at Gloucester.

Trains from Westbury or Bristol Temple Meads to Gloucester will terminate at Cam & Dursley – replacement buses will run to/from Gloucester.

Transport for Wales services from Maesteg to Gloucester or Cheltenham Spa will terminate at Lydney – replacement buses will operate to/from Lydney.

CrossCountry trains from Nottingham to Cardiff Central will terminate at Cheltenham Spa – replacement buses will run to Newport (via Gloucester) for trains to/from Cardiff Central.

Replacement buses will operate between the following locations:

  • Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa
  • Gloucester and Cam & Dursley
  • Gloucester and Stroud (limited service only)
  • Cheltenham Spa, Gloucester and Lydney
  • Cheltenham Spa, Gloucester and Newport

Tuesday 23 to Friday 26 July

A limited train service will operate at Gloucester but no trains will call there after 22:00.

Services between London Paddington and Cheltenham Spa will not call at Gloucester.

Trains between Swindon and Cheltenham Spa as well as trains between Westbury or Bristol Temple Meads and Gloucester, Worcester or Great Malvern will call at Gloucester but will run to an amended timetable – so please check before you travel.

Transport for Wales services from Maesteg to Gloucester or Cheltenham Spa will terminate at Lydney – replacement buses will operate to/from Lydney.

CrossCountry services between Nottingham and Cardiff Central will terminate at Gloucester – replacement buses will run to Newport for trains to/from Cardiff Central.

Please note only Platform 1 at Gloucester station will be in use on these dates.

Replacement buses will operate between the following locations:

  • Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa
  • Gloucester and Stroud (limited service only)
  • Gloucester and Lydney
  • Gloucester and Newport

Follow-up engineering work is planned affecting train services to/from Gloucester in September.
