What to expect on the South West Coast Path

The South West Coast Path has an ancient history connecting coastal communities in the South West and is steeped in local myth and legends with tales of shipwrecks, pirates and smugglers, capturing the hearts and minds of all who journey along it.

Most of the South West Coast Path is linked to the great local train and bus network, so however you are travelling, you’ll find it easy to join in via GWR.

The Salt Path

In cinemas 30th May 2025, The Salt Path featuring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs is based on the bestselling book by Raynor Winn.

The Salt Path is a deeply moving film that brings to life the remarkable true story of resilience, love, and rediscovery. Following the devastating loss of their home and livelihood, Raynor and her terminally ill husband, Moth, decide to walk the 630-mile South West Coast Path as a way to find purpose and healing amidst their hardship.

Set against the stunning landscapes of the UK’s longest National Trail, the film beautifully captures the rawness of nature, the challenges of the journey, and the profound connection between people and the natural world. It’s a poignant exploration of survival, hope, and the power of the human spirit when faced with adversity.
