Winter is a magical time to explore the English Riviera and see its landscape in a different way. Babbacombe, Brixham and Torquay are still lively at this time of year, but less hectic than during the summer months, giving you a little more of the place to yourself.
Culture and heritage
The English Riviera has plenty to offer both culture vultures and history buffs. Enjoy classical concerts, pantomimes, West End shows and more in Torquay, at venues like the Princess Theatre and Babbacombe Theatre. And at the Torquay Museum you’ll find some amazing exhibits and artefacts, as well as a gallery dedicated to the life of Agatha Christie, whose books were inspired by the region.
Head to the busy fishing port of Brixham and sample seafood straight off the boat, or catch and barbecue your own. Stroll around Torquay’s fish market to buy brill, John Dory and scallops. Visit Torquay’s classy international restaurants, or try a pint of local cider at a little back-street pub.
Sport and outdoors
The English Riviera is a fantastic place to get active. Enjoy scenic coastal walks and bike rides, or go for a dip in the ocean. For a real adrenaline rush give climbing or coasteering a try. And, if you fancy taking in a game of football, head out to see Torquay United in action.
Music and nightlife
There are plenty of pubs, bars and clubs to choose from across the English Riviera, meaning a great night out is never hard to find. And if it’s live music you want, there are loads of venues to choose from, playing host to all kinds of bands and artists. Head to Torquay if you're looking for a night out.
The English Riviera has a fantastically varied selection of shops. Torquay has a good mix of high street retailers and independents, with Fleet Walk and Union Square being two of the best areas. Paignton, Babbacombe and Brixham also have plenty to offer, and you’ll find regular markets taking place across the region.
