Culture and heritage
The capital of the South West of England is less than a couple of hours away from London and has a rich maritime history. The Old City has kept much of its charm from years gone by, while the city as a whole has gained a reputation for being at the cutting-edge of culture and the arts. The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery is a great place to start your visit, or head to M Shed to learn about the history of the city.
The symbol of the city, Clifton Suspension Bridge, was designed by the great Isambard Kingdom Brunel, as is the SS Great Britain. From museums to bars and restaurants, the Harbourside is packed with things to do including We The Curious, a hands-on science museum that's fantastic fun for all the family. You can also head to Brandon Hill park and climb the steps of Cabot Tower for a stunning view of the city centre.
Bristol has developed a reputation for fantastic food and drink, with a superb range of restaurants, cafés and bars covering all tastes. Head to St Nicholas Market to try some of the best local produce and street food the city has to offer.
Sport and outdoors
Like sport? Bristol has loads to offer. Football is represented by local rivals Bristol City and Bristol Rovers, while rugby fans can get their fix at Bristol Rugby Club. And if you fancy a round of golf there are plenty of courses to choose from.
Music and nightlife
There’s no shortage of clubs, bars and live music venues to choose from in Bristol. The home of Portishead and Massive Attack regularly attracts big–name musicians from all music genres. If it’s clubbing you want try Harbourside, Park Street or Whiteladies Road.
You’ll find hundreds of big-name stores in the city centre at Cabot Circus, as well as a great indoor selection at The Mall a short drive out of town at Cribbs Causeway. For quirky, independent stores head to Clifton Village and Park Street.
